verizon wireless has become the first national carrier to offer ringback tones to its customers. first of all, you probably want to know what a ringback tone is. the ringback tone is the ringing you hear initially before someone you are calling picks up the phone. that ring is so generic that many of us tend to tune it out. just imagine if you could offer people calling you a better ringback tone, something that's been very popular in other countries that offer the ability. verizon wireless plans to give customers the ability to change this generic ringback tone to short clips of real music. best of all, the ringtone can be changed depending upon the caller id of the caller, if they are in a group list, or if it is a certain time of day. ringback tones can be selected from a catalog of 2,200 songs that includes 13 music genres from warner music group and sony bmg music entertainment. the service will be initially offered in sacramento and southern california, with a national expansion planned in 2005. ringback tones will initially cost us$1.99 per clip (you get to use them for a year before they expire), and the service will run 99 cents per month. read more from the verizon wireless press release.

| reply(12:10am est thu mar 02 2006) i do like the idea of rbts…kinda. stupid ass verizon doesn't have many good choices. most of there songs are just “fad” songs that are only popular now or classic songs that are being used imporperly by only being played for a few short seconds while i get out my mobile phone. in addition they don't have any japanese songs or techno songs. i know it is wrong for me to ask for japanese rbts from an american country but they should have a wider selection for those of us that are tired of crappy english music i.e. “yellowcard” or “falloutboy” (man they suck). i do, however, like the fact that you can get the theme from “hook” or many james bond songs. all in all the rbts are a good thing….that some 12 yr old japanese girl probably thought up. – by go nihon! |
